Gregory Omondi is a Market Engagement Manager at the GSMA Ecosystem Accelerator Programme, a programme that supports local start-ups in leveraging mobile technology and partnering with mobile operators to deliver services with positive socio-economic impact at scale. Through the programme he supports start-ups in emerging markets in both Africa and Asia. Currently, he has been part of a team that has helped 35 start-ups in both Africa and Asia to scale their initiatives, to partner with mobile network operators and to increase impact to their direct and indirect beneficiaries.
Before devoting his work full time to GSMA in Mobile for Development Department, Gregory served as an Innovation Engagement Officer for the Africa Region at the Making All Voice Count, a programme that supported the development and spread of innovative approaches to fostering accountable, responsive governance – many of them using tools and platforms based on mobile phone and digital technologies. Since inception in June 2013 until November 2017 the programme issued 178 Grants (72 to Innovation projects, 38 to scaling projects, 7 to tech hubs and 61 to research projects).
Gregory has also worked as an Accounts Manager, Grants Manager and Business Developer Manager for one of the pioneer tech start-ups in Kenya called Ushahidi Inc, a social enterprise that provides software and services to numerous sectors and civil society to help improve the bottom-up flow of information.
In addition to being a Market Engagement Manager, Gregory has played soccer for the Kenya Nationwide League during his university days at Strathmore University where he pursued an MSC. Mobile Telecommunication Innovation Degree and a BSC. Business Information Technology Degree.
