Jemila Abdulai

Jemila Abdulai is the creative director and editor of the multiple award-winning; a digital platform and company started in 2007 and dedicated to meaningful insights, interaction and creative action related to Africa and Africans. An economist by training and a self-proclaimed wordsmith, she started using computers at four years old and has been writing since the age of 10. As a digital entrepreneur she uses digital technologies to educate, inspire and explore the nuances and interactions between African culture, policy, philosophy and human-interest issues.

Jemila excels at creating content, connections and conversations. As a media and international development professional she combines her business, communications and project management expertise with her strong passion. She works with Africa-oriented brands, companies and organisations like the African Development Bank and the World Bank Group to leverage digital content and tools. Alongside her work in policy and communications, Jemila creates and delivers engaging and interactive digital skills trainings for professionals, SMEs and entrepreneurs on using social media and other digital resources effectively. She delivered the first LinkedIn training in Ghana during Social Media Week Accra 2017 and was spotlighted as Ghana's most influential female blogger in Advance Media's 2018 Top 50 Ghanaian Bloggers List.

A TEDx Speaker and Future of Ghana Top 30 Under 30 honoree, Jemila has written for Devex, Global Voices and the LSE Africa Blog, alongside features on Al-Jazeera, BBC, DeutscheWelle, This Is Africa and Thought Catalog. More recently, Jemila has applied her people and storytelling skills to film. She secured her MA in International Economics and International Affairs from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a B.A. in Economics and French from Mount Holyoke College. Jemila speaks French fluently and has worked in over 10 countries, the majority of which are African. Her short story #Yennenga is published in the 2016 Caine Prize Anthology.
