David Hutchful is an entrepreneur, design thinker, and software developer. He is passionate about designing and building technology solutions that are informed by a nuanced understanding of the socio-economic and cultural contexts of the problems.
With more than 15 years’ experience in design and software development, he has created award winning, innovative platforms that bring about social and economic change in the areas of Finance, Agriculture and Health. A defining example is engageSPARK.com, an easy to use web-based messaging service that extends the reach and impact of social change programs to the poor through mobile phones. engageSPARK won the GSMA’s 2015 Mobile Award for ‘Best use of mobile in emergency or humanitarian situations’ after helping to deliver a financial literacy program to survivors of Super Typhoon Haiyan. David is currently co-founding a startup, Bloom Impact, which will democratise access to finance for small to medium sized enterprises.
Previously, David served as the Director of Technology Innovation at the Grameen Foundation working at the intersection of technology and international development. Before joining Grameen, he was a member of the Technology for Emerging Markets (TEM) Group at Microsoft Research where he conducted research, published and consulted on the design and use of technology in the areas of education and financial services.
